FAQ Answered: My Midwife Said to Drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea FAQ Answered: My Midwife Said to Drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea

27 Aug , 2015

One of the most common questions we get asked is about our Peaceful Pregnancy tea. Midwives, Doulas and a growing number of OBs are encouraging pregnant women to drink Red Raspberry leaf tea.  Red Raspberry Leaf is one of the most nourishing herbs for the uterus and is an incredible tonic for pregnancy.

We have taken Red Raspberry Leaf one step farther by combining it with other herbs traditionally used to during pregnancy.  It is always a good idea to make sure your practitioner is on board with what you choose to use during your pregnancy and we have a wide number of midwives, doulas, docs, chiropractors, etc. who love this tea!  Most practitioners are not trained herbalists and may not know the benefits of some of these other herbs.  Below is some information you can share with them to help about this delicious and nourishing tea (please feel free to pass along our contact information and let them know we love working with practitioners to provide tea for their patients!)

Red Raspberry Leaf is the base of the tea.  This herb belongs to the rose family, and helps to tone the uterus and has wonderful astringent properties (which helps tighten tissue and squeeze excess fluids out of soggy tissue).   Raspberry leaf helps facilitate and regulate a normal blood flow in the uterus and is most effective consumed regularly throughout your pregnancy until you’re ready to begin drinking Ripe and Ready.

Nettle Leaf is a powerful blood builder.  The uterus during pregnancy is using massive amounts of blood and nettle helps to provide nutrients to the blood as well as stabilizing excess blood flow.

Alfalfa is considered a “superfood” along with Nettle.  Like nettles, they are high in vitamins, minerals and proteins that are easily assimilated by our bodies and nourish our blood!  Alfalfa is also high in Vitamin K which helps the blood to coagulate properly.

Rose Hips are high in Vitamin C and bioflavonoids.  Bioflavonoids help our bodies absorb vitamin C and strengthen connective tissues, capillaries, and reduce inflammation.  They also provide a delicious flavor to our tea!

Rose Petals are not only beautiful and flavorful, but they have a similar, more gentle, astringent property as red raspberry leaf.

Hawthorn Berry also belongs to the rose family.  They do possess a mild astringent property but we add them because they act as a circulatory system tonic.  This herb helps to strengthen the heart and blood vessels thereby more effectively delivering blood to your uterus.

Orange Peel is added to round out the flavor of our tea.  Orange peel also can have a positive, energizing effect on mood!

There’s the basic information about why we chose to make Peaceful Pregnancy Tea.  If you or your practitioner ever have any questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us.  Please let us know if you have any further questions- we’re always available via email at info@birdsandbeesteas.com on Facebook or over the phone at 303-520-5194.

Bonus-This tea is also great for women to drink before their menstrual period starts and during the first couple of days!!
