Tips For Trick-or-Treating With Your Littles Tips For Trick-or-Treating With Your Littles

29 Oct , 2015

As you’re putting on the finishing touches to costumes, we’re busy getting wrapped up from a fun week at the ABC Expo in Las Vegas.

This is the premier expo for all things baby & children.  Over 1 million square feet of space where all the latest and greatest products are released to the world!  We were happy to release our 3 brand new teas: Inner Peace, Grounded and Milk Be Gone.  As well as our brand new Sitz Bath!

Now we’re back and busy filling order for our new stores, and getting ready for Halloween this weekend.  We thought we would offer some advice for first time and younger Trick-or-Treaters to help make this weekend go a little more smoothly for you. This article is full of helpful tips for tips for Trick-or-Treating with your Littles.

  • Ask neighbors, school friends, church friends, etc. for tips on good neighborhoods to go to.   A lot less people are handing out treats these days and you may end up doing a lot of walking.
  • Consider making your sling, stroller or baby carrier part of your costume.  Tiny legs will tire out fast.
  • Wear comfortable shoes since you’ll be walking with your child.
  • Get a good nap in the afternoon!
  • Check out alternative events in your community.  Many churches, zoos, schools and community centers offer activities in the afternoon for younger kids.
  • If your child has food allergies/ intolerances make sure to check out  the Teal Pumpkin Project so you can plan your route.
  • Dress for the weather!  Those of us here in Colorado know especially well, Halloween can be below freezing or 80 degrees!
  • Explain to your child(ren) ahead of time what the rules are with candy.  Make sure they know how much they’re allowed to eat while they’re out and about and what you’ll do with the rest.  This will help prevent any meltdowns.
    • Don’t do candy?  Lots of dentists, grocery stores, and small businesses will swap out your candy for a toy, book, movie, free meal, etc.
  • Evaluate beforehand how easily frightened your child gets and scope out homes before you walk up to them!
    • It can be helpful to come up with a code word or a “secret handshake” or something similar between you and your child.  That way if they’re frightened or uncomfortable about something, but may be embarrassed or unsure of how to tell you they can communicate it easily.
  • Make sure children know your phone number or pin your phone number somewhere on their costume or trick-or-treat bin.  Have a plan for if you get separated.
  • Talk beforehand about making inappropriate or rude comments about costumes.  This is hard for small children to understand and it might still happen, but is a helpful conversation to have!
  • Little bitty kids will probably be happy after a couple houses and then will get a kick out of handing goodies out to people at your house!  Make sure to leave your porch light on and put out your Teal Pumpkin if you’re participating in the project.
  • Help your child unwind at the end of the evening with a soothing cup of Easy Naps Calm Nights Tea and chat about the things they saw.
    • Some children may not be able to verbally process very well and may be frightened by some of the costumes they saw.  Consider letting them draw you pictures and be prepared that there may be a few nightmares or questions later on.
  • Take tons of pictures and have a blast!!
